100% Wrong: Biden on Obama and Preconditions

Democrat Candidates Debate, July 23, 2007:

QUESTION: [W]ould you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea, in order to bridge the gap that divides our countries?

OBAMA: I would. And the reason is this, that the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them — which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration — is ridiculous.

Experience: McCain vs. Biden

Howard Kurtz has an interesting analysis of the McCain economic ad at The Washington Post today. As usual, it was dubious, but there was one thing I found disturbing. It seems Kurtz doesn’t consider 25+ years as a Senator and U.S. Rep. working on the Commerce Committee and other economic committees to be “economic experience”. Well, that’s fine with me. No Problem.

But if that is the case, then how can Kurtz say that Joe Biden has any foreign policy experience? He hasn’t done anything but sit in the Senate for 30+ years.

Here it is:

By Howard Kurtz
“The Ad: Obama has no background in economics. Who advises him? The Post says it’s Franklin Raines, for “advice on mortgage and housing policy.” Shocking. Under Raines, Fannie Mae committed “extensive financial fraud.” Raines made millions. Fannie Mae collapsed. Taxpayers? Stuck with the bill. Barack Obama. Bad advice. Bad instincts. Not ready to lead.

Analysis: This John McCain ad is based on a disputed premise.

There’s no dispute that Obama has no background in economics — but then, neither does McCain, which makes this an odd charge for the Arizona senator to hurl.”

Hmmm….

Charity: Not Biden’s Strong Suit; Theft Through Government On the Other Hand…

Joe Biden, the man who gives less than half of one percent of his United States Senator’s salary to charity, said Thursday, that it is patriotic for Americans to pay more in taxes. Apparently, though, to the Senator, it’s only patriotic if the government TAKES the money from you.

Forgive me for disagreeing with the stingy Senator, but I think it is much more patriotic to give money to private charities that are actually accountable for the money they receive. That is the honorable, and yes, patriotic, way to help your fellow Americans, not using the endless powers of government to take what it wants and leave you the leftovers. Here’s the video:
